Located at an altitude of 1338 meters between high peaks, dense woods and pastures, Brusson is a locality characterized by good exposure to the sun and a varied landscape that make it a popular tourist destination in every season, especially by a family clientele. Worth noting are the gold mines, active until the end of the 80s, which can now be visited thanks to recovery interventions. From Brusson starts the road that leads to the panoramic Col di Joux , which connects the Val d'Ayas with Saint-Vincent.
What see?
- The Chamousira gold mines : a modern structure, in a panoramic position over the Val d'Ayas, allows you to discover the suggestive underground world of the Brusson gold mines.
- The Parish Church of San Maurizio : located in the upper part of the village, it was rebuilt in 1870. It houses interesting 19th-century altars and a series of sacred art objects.
- La Fromagerie Haut Val d'Ayas : spaces have been carved out inside the dairy that reproduce scenes of rural life of the past, with some panels illustrating the journey of the milk from milking to transformation.
In winter, Brusson is a paradise for Nordic ski enthusiasts, with over 30 kilometers of slopes reaching 2,000 meters in Estoul, a village where there are also downhill slopes which, through larch forests, go towards Punta Palasinaz , among mountains with gentle slopes, excellent destinations also for ski mountaineering lovers.
With the arrival of summer you can try your hand at countless excursions, from the easiest and most relaxing ones to those towards the highest peaks, or ride a mountain bike along various paths. For lovers of rock climbing , in the hamlet of Extrepieraz there are overhanging walls up to 45 meters high.
Brusson, an ideal location for family holidays, is home to an environment rich in springs and lakes, which can be reached via pleasant paths immersed in nature. For example, you can walk along the ancient irrigation canals or reachAlpe Salomon in just an hour's walk. Alternatively, younger guests can experience the thrill of riding friendly ponies at the summer stables . For the entertainment of children, there is a beautiful lake in the village, surrounded by a well-equipped playground and with a large lawn for having fun in the sun. In winter, children can play in the snow of the Estoul baby snow park between inflatables and rafts or experience the thrill of ice skating .
Festivals and traditions:
- Ski instructors' torchlight procession: at the end of the year, the ski instructors descend the slopes of the Estoul "Gigante" red slope with torches, creating a long luminous snake on the snow.
- Bataille des Reines: every two years (in even years), in the splendid hamlet of Estoul surrounded by high peaks, an elimination round of this non-bloody fight between cows takes place, the purpose of which is to decree a natural "queen " of the group.
Restaurants:
LAGHETTO RESTAURANT: The large windows of the dining room overlooking the lake are like a wonderful trompe l'oeil of the surrounding panorama. The gastronomy is particularly attentive to the dishes of the Aosta Valley tradition, it is proposed as a refuge for the simple and authentic taste and flavors of the place. You can embark on a food and wine journey among cold cuts, homemade gnocchi, polenta with game, old-fashioned soups, accompanied by a good glass of wine in a convivial atmosphere. A lit fireplace and good company will make the room even warmer.
THE WHITE CROSS: The structure was built in the early 1950s and was completely renovated in the 1990s. Located in the plan d'Artsesa (1,125 m asl), a small fraction of the Municipality of Brusson, it is about 13 km from the Verres motorway exit, 5 km from the Brusson international Nordic ski slope and 3 km from the town centre. The kitchen offers home cooking characterized by local products of excellent quality.
